Twerwaneho Empowered Women Association (TEWA) is a powerful, women-led movement fostering solidarity and resilience in land and environmental rights advocacy. We empower women to champion environmental conservation, land rights, and economic independence for a sustainable future. Through advocacy, hands-on training, and community-led initiatives, TEWA supports women land defenders, advocates for sustainable livelihoods, and cultivates leaders who drive long-term change. Join us in standing up for environmental justice and economic empowerment.

TEWA is committed to creating lasting impact through women-led advocacy, economic empowerment, and sustainable environmental practices. Our approach supports women in building resilient communities and conserving natural resources, ultimately contributing to a healthier, more equitable planet.

Our Programs

women_weaving

Empowering women through skiling

TEWA empowers women through sustainable weaving as a means of improving livelihoods and conserving the environment. The initiative seeks to reduce women’s dependence on wetlands for papyrus harvesting by promoting alternative, eco-friendly weaving materials such as pine tree leaves, recycled polythene papers and basket rolls. Women are trained to produce quality woven products for sale, generating income to support their households.

Through collective production and marketing, surplus earnings can also be saved to strengthen women’s financial security, grow their enterprises and improve their socioeconomic wellbeing. The initiative combines environmental conservation, skills development, women’s economic empowerment and sustainable livelihood creation.

Our Focus

Empowering women for change

We work with grassroots communities to create jobs, raise living standards, and ensure women actively participate in decision-making through skills training and advocacy.

Advocacy for Women in Development

We lobby to break barriers and open opportunities for women in sectors traditionally dominated by gender imbalance.

Climate Resilience Ambassadors (FMNR)

We train women to restore degraded lands, improve soil fertility, and increase biodiversity using Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration for greater food security and climate resilience.

Women in Land Rights Advocacy

We create a platform for women land defenders to protect their communities from land grabbing and environmental degradation through advocacy and collective action.
